BIJAGUAL RIVER - 0.6 miles
Hiking the Bijagual River right from the campsite is a great adventure. The the Bijagual River is not very deep, so hiking is fun 'in the river' crossing here and there in tennis or river shoes. There are three waterfalls on streams that enter the Bijagual; the two smaller ones are about 10 feet high and can be seen from the Bijagual river. The third, largest one, about 25 feet high, requires a 5 minute hike up the first two and around the bend to be seen. Few tourists have ever seen these falls and they are unknown to most locals as well. The hike is best completed by continuing downstream on the Bijagual river to the next bridge [20 minute hike] or on trails from the main road about a kilometer away and returning to the camp on the country road. Guides are also available. The Bijagual river flows through volcanic rock and layers of healing mineral clay. It is a truly spectacular tropical river at every turn in every way. A playground in Paradise!
Rappelling
Enjoy the adventure of descending a 90 foot wall on the Sarapiquí River canyon with a spectacular view of the confluence of the Sarapiquí and Pozo Azul Rivers.
POAS NATIONAL PARK - 15.6 miles
Poás Volcano National Park, in Spanish Parque Nacional Volcán Poás, is a National Park in Costa Rica that covers an area of approximately 65 square kilometres (16,000 acres); the summit is 2,700 metres (8,900 ft). It remains closed until further notice.
